“With a background in vocal pedagogy and a career built primarily in opera, my teaching is deeply informed by my experience as a performer. As an applied voice teacher, I aim to equip each student with essential vocal skills while nurturing their individual potential and artistic identity. My goal is to inspire singers to grow, not only technically, but expressively and authentically as musicians.”
Mariateresa Magisano has performed with esteemed arts organizations across North America, singing a wide range of roles in opera, concert and recital. A passionate advocate of new music, she has premiered several contemporary works.
Magisano joined the Department of Music at Brown University in 2021 as a Teaching Associate in Voice. She also serves as Interim Director of the Voice Division in the Applied Music Program.
She holds a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance from McGill University and a Master of Music in Vocal Pedagogy from the Boston Conservatory at Berklee College of Music. Her advanced training includes renowned programs at The Juilliard Opera Center, Accademia di Santa Cecilia, Tanglewood Music Center, Aldeburgh Festival/Britten-Pears School, Aspen Music Festival, Ravinia Festival, and Vancouver Opera’s Young Artist Program.
Magisano is dedicated to leadership within the vocal community, and serves on the boards of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) for both the Boston Chapter, and the New England Region.

A Deeper Look …
A winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, soprano Mariateresa Magisano has enjoyed a distinguished career performing leading operatic and concert repertoire throughout North America.
Past notable engagements include Liù in Turandot with Calgary Opera, Kitty Hart in Dead Man Walking with L’Opéra de Montréal, Mimì in La Bohème with Nickel City Opera, Micaëla in Carmen with Vancouver Opera and The Green Mountain Opera Festival, Beth in the Canadian premiere of Little Women with Calgary Opera, and Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro with Opera Lyra Ottawa. She made her New York City Opera debut as Zerlina in Don Giovanni, a role she also performed with Vancouver Opera and Opera Columbus. Other notable roles include Rosina (Il Barbiere di Siviglia), Despina (Così fan tutte), Gretel (Hansel and Gretel), Contessa (Le Nozze di Figaro), and Ida McKinley in the world premiere of Persis Vehar’s Shot.
As a concert soloist, Ms. Magisano has appeared with numerous organizations, including the Vancouver Recital Society, Ottawa Chamber Music Society, I Musici de Montréal, the CBC–McGill Concert Series, Vancouver Chamber Choir, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Chor Leoni Male Choir, and the Music and Beyond Festival. She is also an accomplished interpreter of contemporary music, having premiered and recorded works by Imant Raminsh, Linda Nessel, and Rupert Lang.
Ms. Magisano has received awards and grants from the Metropolitan Opera Education Fund, the Canada Council for the Arts, the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, and the Jacqueline Desmarais Foundation. She earned her Bachelor of Music and Artist’s Diploma in Voice Performance from McGill University before continuing advanced studies with the Vancouver Opera Young Artist Ensemble, The Juilliard Opera Center, and the Opera Studio of the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome.
Fluent in English, French, and Italian, Ms. Magisano has performed throughout North America and Europe and remains passionate about sharing her love of singing through both performance and teaching.
